A few days passed by and I hadn’t seen of or heard from Jenna. As usual. I mean, shouldn’t I be getting used to this? I really didn’t know Jenna, the whole deep side of Jenna. I knew she hid this from her co-workers at Smith Financials. I realized I didn’t know Jenna at all. Aside from what stories she regaled to me during tennis practice.

I suddenly wanted to know her dating track record. I wanted to know everything about her. Hell, I even wanted to know where she lived.

I took out my phone and asked her where she was. It was a Friday night anyway and Tim was still at the office. I hoped she wasn’t. She replied she was at home. It took her less than a minute to reply. Perhaps she was bored. I asked her if she wanted to hang-out. Yeah, that sounded so high school, right? I did say Netflix.

She said she would. I gave her my address. I jumped into action. My flat was neat enough. All things were in order. What would I wear? Something casual yet flirty? Something generic? Something lazy, like I didn’t put too much effort?

I estimated she would be here in thirty minutes or so. Did I have enough food to offer her? What did she like? I should have asked what she liked. I did have wine and different kinds of cheese. I could still make a salad. Why did I feel so nervous? Something was off this night. But off with what? I chose khaki shorts and a lacy spaghetti top. Well this was my flat. I wanted to be comfortable.

Just as I was in the process of fluffing up my pillows on my couch, I heard my doorbell ring and I walked out to open the door for her. She wore a dark blue day dress and sandals.

She kissed my cheek lightly and handed me a bottle of red wine.

“Sorry, it was all I could think of.”

“This is fine,” I said placing the bottle inside the fridge.

“You have a neat place,” Jenna said, sitting down on the couch.

“I try to clean it once in a while,” I told her.

“No cleaning lady?”

“No cleaning lady,” I said proudly. “So,” I began, sitting next to her, “How have you been?”

“Busy. I went to Texas a couple of days ago.”

“Oh, you were with Tim and the others?”

Jenna nodded. “Some mid-year conference. Smith Financials got an award. Best managed financial company.”

Tim was over the roof with that. They hadn’t had that award in five years. I had a feeling Jenna had something to do with their incredible performance this year. I didn’t say anything about this, though.

I could feel that wall between us again. Acting cordial around each other. Didn’t we want to see each other? We should be more comfortable around each other, right? I didn’t want to lose any momentum I was gaining. I wanted us to be as animated as we were on the court.

“Hey, you actually have Wii,” she commented.
